The Huffington Post
recently posted an article entitled: High-Protein
Diets In Midlife Linked To High Risk Of Premature Death, Study Says.
This peeked our interest at
Serious Oats because we are big fans of a protein, most specifically a high
protein breakfast. So what’s the story with this new study?
In short, the issue arises
with animal based proteins. ‘The
study followed 6,318 adults from a variety of ethnicities and health histories
over two decades and found those with diets high in animal proteins were just
as likely to die as a result of cancer as a regular smoker. Animal proteins
include things like meats, cheeses, milk, and eggs. Diets high in
plant-based proteins, however, including foods like beans, lentils, and nuts,
did not have the same dangerous effects as animal proteins.’
Don't forget, the CDC does
recommends 46 grams of protein per day for adult
women and 56 grams for men. This article is targeting the fad diets such as
Adkins and Paleos that often prioritize protein over all else.
So mind your protein intake,
because all of one thing is never a good thing. But most importantly, balance
your diet. It is important to educate yourself and fill your plate with healthy
fats, carbs and proteins - to ensure your body is getting its required
nutrients.
